John Mahama Claims Victory in Ghana Presidential Election Amid Economic Struggles
Ghana’s Vice-President, Mahamudu Bawumia, has conceded defeat in Saturday’s presidential election, congratulating opposition leader and former President John Mahama on what he called a “decisive” victory.
“The people have voted for change,” Bawumia declared, acknowledging the outcome based on internal tallies from the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
While the Electoral Commission (EC) has yet to officially announce the results, Bawumia’s concession has sparked nationwide celebrations among supporters of Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC). In cities like Kumasi, jubilant crowds waved flags, cheered, and filled the streets with the sound of vuvuzelas and revving motorbikes.
For many, the election symbolizes hope amid Ghana’s worst economic crisis in decades. High inflation, skyrocketing food and fuel prices, and soaring youth unemployment have left citizens demanding urgent reforms.
The EC reported delays in finalizing results due to disruptions at collation centers, prompting police intervention.
Mahama, who served as Ghana’s president from 2012 to 2017, confirmed that Bawumia had personally called to congratulate him on his “emphatic victory.

Fingerprints Link Suspect to NYC Murder of Healthcare CEO
Authorities have reportedly matched fingerprints found at the crime scene of healthcare executive Brian Thompson’s fatal shooting to 26-year-old suspect Luigi Mangione, according to US media. This marks the first forensic link connecting Mangione to the targeted killing that occurred outside a Manhattan hotel last week.
Mangione was arrested Monday in Pennsylvania following a multi-state manhunt. He is currently being held on gun-related charges while resisting extradition to New York to face murder charges. His lawyer maintains Mangione’s innocence, stating, “He’s pleading not guilty to those offences… I haven’t seen any evidence that he is the shooter.”
The arrest followed Mangione’s identification at a McDonald’s in Pennsylvania. He was allegedly in possession of a firearm resembling the murder weapon, a silencer, a fake ID, and handwritten notes reportedly expressing grievances with the US healthcare system. Authorities believe these notes may serve as a claim of responsibility for the murder.
Brian Thompson, 50, CEO of UnitedHealthcare, was killed by a masked assailant in what officials describe as a calculated attack. New York Police Department officials have not commented on the reported fingerprint match.
The extradition process to transfer Mangione from Pennsylvania to New York may take days or weeks due to differences in state judicial systems. Investigators continue to scrutinize evidence as Mangione faces mounting allegations tying him to the high-profile killing.

Delhi Schools Evacuated Amid Bomb Threats
Around 40 schools in Delhi were evacuated and searched on Monday following anonymous bomb threats demanding $30,000 in ransom. The threats were delivered via email, prompting a swift response from authorities, though no explosives have been found so far.
Two schools reportedly received the threatening emails late Sunday night, with others receiving them Monday morning. Videos circulated online showed concerned parents picking up their children as police combed through campuses.
A parent interviewed by local media expressed frustration:
“This is the second time this year something like this has happened. It disrupts our children’s education and causes unnecessary stress.”
Police are working to trace the source of the emails and have not yet confirmed whether the threats were hoaxes.
This incident is part of a worrying trend of hoax bomb threats in India. As of mid-November, airports and airlines in the country reported nearly 1,000 such incidents this year, significantly higher than in previous years. The motives behind the surge remain unclear, though the disruptions have led to widespread delays and heightened public anxiety.
Delhi Chief Minister Atishi criticized the federal government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s BJP, for failing to ensure public safety:
“After daily incidents of ransom, murders, and shootings in Delhi, now we are receiving threats of school bombings,” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
The Delhi Police, which reports to the federal home ministry, has yet to release detailed findings. The federally appointed lieutenant governor has not commented on the matter.
Authorities are intensifying efforts to identify the sender and ensure the safety of students and school staff.
