US Reclaim Solheim Cup with Narrow Victory Over Europe
The United States secured their first Solheim Cup victory since 2017 with a tight win over Europe in Virginia. World number two, Lilia Vu, clinched the crucial half point, bringing the US to the 14½ points needed for victory after a tense and thrilling finale.
Europe began the day hoping for a “Manassas miracle,” with captain Suzann Pettersen placing her strongest players in the early singles matches. English golfers Charley Hull and Georgia Hall led the European charge. Hull claimed a commanding 6&4 win against world number one Nelly Korda, while Hall delivered a 4&3 victory over Alison Lee.
However, in the second match, Megan Khang dominated Emily Pedersen with a 6&5 win, pushing the US to an 11-8 lead and within three and a half points of success. The Americans quickly capitalized, with Allisen Corpuz defeating Anna Nordqvist 4&3, and former world amateur number one Rose Zhang overwhelming Carlota Ciganda 6&4 to become the only player to score four points throughout the week.
As the competition progressed, nerves took hold, and European blue began to fill the bottom half of the scoreboard, creating a tense atmosphere. Nonetheless, the US held their ground to reclaim the Solheim Cup.
