UEFA Reopens Bidding for 2027 Champions League Final After Milan Loses Hosting Rights

UEFA has reopened the bidding process for the 2027 Champions League final after deciding to strip Milan’s San Siro stadium of its hosting rights. Milan’s inability to assure UEFA that redevelopment work on the stadium would not affect the event led to the decision. AC Milan and Inter Milan are considering building a new stadium in the San Siro area.

The new host stadium is expected to be announced by May or June 2025.

At the same UEFA Executive Committee meeting where this decision was made, changes were also agreed upon regarding solidarity funding. The “big five” European leagues—Premier League, La Liga, Ligue 1, Serie A, and Bundesliga—will see their solidarity payments capped at €10 million per season through 2026-27, an increase of €1.5 million from the previous cycle. The total fund to be shared among clubs not participating in European competitions has risen to €308 million from €177.2 million in the previous cycle.
