Turkish Embassy Clarifies Visa Policy for Nigerians
Recent reports claimed that Turkey, alongside Ethiopia and the UAE, had revoked certain privileges for Nigerian passport holders, such as visa-on-arrival and e-visa options. However, the Turkish Embassy has refuted these claims, stating that there is no visa ban on Nigerians and that the reports are misleading.
Wunmi Evelyn, the personal secretary to the Turkish Ambassador to Nigeria, clarified that although the e-visa option for Nigerians has been discontinued, this does not constitute a visa ban. She emphasized that changes in visa policies are officially communicated through foreign ministries and embassy announcements.
Evelyn also noted that visa applications are assessed on a case-by-case basis. Applicants who have been previously denied a visa are advised to correct any mistakes and improve their applications, ensuring no fraudulent or outdated documents are submitted.
Despite Nigeria’s status as the most populous black nation and one of Africa’s largest economies, the country’s passport ranks among the ten least powerful on the continent in 2024. This highlights the challenges Nigerian travelers may face in securing visas for international travel.
