Timberlake's Lawyer Asserts Pop Star's Innocence in DUI Arrest

Justin Timberlake’s legal representative has clarified that the pop star was “not intoxicated” when he was arrested last month for driving under the influence. The 43-year-old was detained in New York after allegedly running a stop sign and failing to remain on the right side of the road.

During his initial court hearing on Friday, Timberlake’s attorney, Edward Burke, argued that law enforcement made “a very significant number of errors” in the case. “The most important fact to know about this case is that Justin was not intoxicated and should not have been arrested for DWI,” Burke stated.

Speaking outside Sag Harbor Village Justice Court, Burke emphasized Timberlake’s respect for law enforcement and his cooperation during the arrest. “But the fact remains, he was not intoxicated and they made an error in arresting him for it. We are confident that this charge will be dismissed.”

Timberlake did not attend the hearing due to the commencement of his “Everything I Thought It Was” world tour, which began at the Tauron Arena in Krakow. He is expected to appear virtually for re-arraignment next month.

The incident occurred in Sag Harbor, a popular celebrity summer spot in the Hamptons. According to the charging document, Timberlake’s eyes appeared “bloodshot and glassy,” and there was a “strong odor of an alcoholic beverage” on his breath. His speech was reportedly slowed, and he did not perform well on sobriety tests conducted by officers. Additionally, he refused a breathalyzer test.

“I had one martini and I followed my friends home,” Timberlake reportedly told the officer.

Timberlake has previously been open about seeking help for excessive drinking. In New York, the penalties for driving while intoxicated can include up to a year in jail, a $1,000 fine, and a driver’s license suspension for at least six months.
