Three Killed and 15 Injured in Shanghai Walmart Stabbing

A tragic stabbing rampage at a Walmart in Shanghai’s Songjiang district on Monday night left three people dead and 15 others injured. Chinese authorities arrested a 37-year-old man named Lin, who reportedly committed the attack due to personal economic grievances. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.

The attack occurred at the Ludu International Commercial Plaza, a busy shopping mall in a densely populated area of southwest Shanghai, home to several universities. While three victims succumbed to their injuries at the hospital, the remaining 15 individuals, though injured, are not believed to be in critical condition.

An eyewitness, Mr. Shi, who runs a jewelry store in the mall, described scenes of panic and chaos, with SWAT officers and firefighters arriving to evacuate people. He recounted the terror of seeing people running in fear and expressed shock at the random nature of the attack.

Despite the incident, the Walmart reopened on Tuesday with heightened security. Knife attacks have become a rising concern in China, a country where firearms are strictly prohibited, making such violent outbursts particularly disturbing. Discussions about the incident have reportedly been censored on Chinese social media.
