Teenager Charged with Attempted Murder of NFL Player Ricky Pearsall
A 17-year-old has been charged with the attempted murder and robbery of San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall, following a shooting incident in Union Square, San Francisco, on Saturday. The teenager, who will be tried in juvenile court, was arrested near the scene.
Pearsall, 23, sustained a gunshot wound to the chest and was taken to the hospital, but fortunately, he was released the following day. The incident occurred after Pearsall had been signing autographs at an event and was allegedly targeted for his expensive watch. A struggle ensued, leading to the shooting.
Footage from the scene showed Pearsall being assisted by paramedics and holding a shirt to his chest to stem the bleeding. His mother later confirmed on social media that the bullet had narrowly missed his vital organs, for which she expressed gratitude.
The suspect was also injured during the altercation, though their current condition remains undisclosed. They face multiple charges, including attempted murder, assault with a semi-automatic firearm, and attempted second-degree robbery. The suspect is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, with prosecutors pushing for their continued detention.
Pearsall is expected to miss several games in what would have been his debut season for the 49ers, but the team’s general manager described his survival as “nothing short of miraculous.”
