Team Nigeria Disqualified from Men's 4x400m Relay at Paris 2024 Olympics

Team Nigeria’s men’s 4x400m relay team, composed of Emmanuel Ojeli, Ezekiel Nathanial, Dubem Amene, and Chidi Okezie, faced disqualification from the Paris 2024 Olympics on Friday. Despite initially securing a second-place finish in their semi-final heat with a season’s best time of 2:59.81, the team was disqualified due to a changeover infraction.

The disqualification occurred after one of the Nigerian athletes was found to have impeded a South African runner during a baton exchange. This infraction allowed the South African team to advance to the final in Nigeria’s place.

Botswana, who claimed the bronze medal in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, topped the heats with an impressive time of 2:57.76. They will compete in the final alongside Great Britain, the United States, Japan, France, Belgium, Zambia, Italy, and South Africa.
