Spain Overcomes Morocco to Reach Men’s Olympic Football Final
Spain has secured a place in the final of the men’s Olympic football competition after a thrilling 2-1 comeback victory over Morocco. The 2020 silver medallists found themselves trailing in the first half when Soufiane Rahimi, the tournament’s top scorer, converted a penalty to score his sixth goal of the Games.
Barcelona’s Fermin Lopez brought Spain back into the game, equalizing midway through the second half in Marseille. He capitalized on a loose ball in the penalty area to level the score. With just five minutes remaining, substitute Juanlu Sanchez fired home a decisive winner, securing Spain’s spot in Friday’s final in Paris.
Spain will face Thierry Henry’s French side in the final at 20:00 BST. The host nation advanced to the final after defeating Egypt 3-1 in extra time in the other semi-final matchup.
Morocco will now compete for the bronze medal, facing Egypt in Nantes on Thursday.
