Southampton Sign Arsenal Goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale for £25m
Southampton has secured the signing of Arsenal and England goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale in a deal worth £25 million. The Saints will pay an initial £18 million, with an additional £7 million in potential add-ons. Ramsdale, 26, has signed a four-year contract at St Mary’s, with the club holding the option to extend the deal by another year.
Expressing his excitement about the move, Ramsdale said, “I’m absolutely delighted. The way the manager wants to play, and his enthusiasm when I spoke to him, made me feel about eight feet tall. It’s exactly what you want from a manager.”
Ramsdale, who has been capped five times by England and was part of Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 squad, made 89 appearances for Arsenal after joining them from Sheffield United in 2021 for £26 million.
Southampton manager Russell Martin hailed Ramsdale’s signing as a significant addition to the squad. “Aaron is a real statement signing for us,” Martin said. “I’m very grateful to ownership and the board for making it happen, especially as so many other clubs were keen to get him.”
Ramsdale had been linked to a move to Wolves, but Southampton won the race for his signature. Meanwhile, Arsenal is expected to bring in Bournemouth goalkeeper Neto on a season-long loan to replace Ramsdale.
