Sanwo-Olu Praises Peaceful Protests in Lagos, Calls for Return to Normalcy
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has commended the peaceful nature of the protests in Lagos, expressing admiration for the protesters’ maintenance of law and order. In a statement released by Gbenga Omotoso, the Commissioner of the Lagos State Ministry of Information and Strategy, the governor acknowledged the concerns raised by the protesters regarding hunger and hardship.
Omotoso stated, “The Lagos State Government has watched closely today’s protest in some parts of the State and would like to put on record the peaceful conduct of Lagosians. This is the way it should be in our dear State, according to Mr. Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.”
The governor noted that while there was a noticeable slowdown in business activities in some areas, likely due to fears of potential unrest, Lagosians chose to express their views peacefully. “We have also noticed the slowdown of business in some parts of the State, perhaps because of the fear that hooligans and architects of anarchy might force their evil design on us all and endanger our harmony. Thankfully, that did not happen,” Omotoso added.
The government emphasized that the message conveyed by the protesters has been heard “loud and clear.” Omotoso reiterated that Lagosians’ choice to embrace peace and avoid destruction while exercising their constitutional right to protest reflects the values and spirit of the state.
