Raducanu Reflects on US Open Exit, Plans to Adjust Schedule for Future

Emma Raducanu has expressed her disappointment after a first-round exit at the US Open, where she was defeated by fellow Grand Slam champion Sofia Kenin in a challenging three-set match. The British player, who shot to fame by winning the US Open as a teenage qualifier in 2021, was hoping to recapture her success in New York but fell short with a 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 loss.

This marks Raducanu’s second consecutive first-round exit at the US Open, following her early departure in 2022 and a missed appearance last year due to wrist and ankle surgeries. Reflecting on her performance, the 21-year-old admitted feeling “sad” and “down” after the match, highlighting the emotional toll of the defeat.

In a post-match news conference, Raducanu, who had only played one tournament between Wimbledon and the US Open, acknowledged the need for more match play before major tournaments. “I think I need to manage my schedule slightly differently and make sure I get more matches in before the Slams,” she said, hinting at potential changes to her preparation strategy for future Grand Slam events.

Despite the disappointment, Raducanu remains determined to learn from this experience and adjust her approach moving forward. Her journey continues as she seeks to build on her past successes and return to the top of the women’s game.
