Potter Fans Disappointed as Hogwarts Express Announcement Skipped at King’s Cross
Harry Potter enthusiasts gathered at London King’s Cross station on Sunday, hoping to witness the traditional announcement of the Hogwarts Express on September 1st. However, they were left disappointed when the fictional train’s departure was not announced this year.
In past years, Network Rail had marked the occasion by displaying the Hogwarts Express departure to Hogsmeade from Platform 9¾ on the station’s departure board at 11 a.m., accompanied by a magical announcement for the witches and wizards boarding the train. This tradition attracted fans in costumes, creating a lively and festive atmosphere at the station.
However, Network Rail had previously warned in July that no event would be planned for this year due to the operational challenges posed by the large crowds that gathered in 2022. Despite the warning, fans still showed up in costume, expressing their disappointment by booing the lack of an announcement.
A Network Rail spokesperson explained the decision, stating, “While our station concourses are sometimes used for commercial events, our priority must always be passengers who are trying to make their journeys on the railway. Last year’s event saw thousands of people at King’s Cross, which made it challenging for us as station operator.”
Although the in-person event was canceled, online celebrations were offered, allowing fans across the country to join in the fun remotely.
