Phil Foden Shines as Manchester City Secure First Champions League Win of the Season

Phil Foden delivered a standout performance with a goal and an assist as Manchester City eased to a 4-0 victory over Slovan Bratislava, securing their first win in the new Champions League format.

After a slow start to the season, Foden took full advantage of his second start, helping City dominate from the outset. Ilkay Gundogan opened the scoring in the eighth minute with a deflected strike, marking his first goal since rejoining City.

Foden quickly followed up with a composed finish into the bottom corner just seven minutes later, putting City firmly in control. Despite hitting the woodwork three times through Foden, Gundogan, and Jeremy Doku, City’s relentless attack continued.

Erling Haaland added his 11th goal of the season before the hour mark, rounding Slovan goalkeeper Dominik Takac to make it 3-0. Foden then showcased his vision, flicking the ball through to James McAtee, who netted his first goal for City in the 74th minute.

City’s dominant display could have produced more goals if not for the heroics of Slovan’s keeper Takac. This victory marked City’s first in the revamped Champions League format, following a draw in their opening match against Inter Milan.
