Paris Set to Deliver “Spectacular” Paralympics Opening on Wednesday
Paris is gearing up to host the 2024 Paralympic Games, promising an unforgettable event that aims to rival or even surpass the acclaimed London 2012 Games. Following the challenges faced by the delayed Tokyo 2021 Games, held without fans due to the Covid pandemic, and the financial struggles of Rio 2016, Paris is under pressure to deliver a landmark Paralympics.
The opening ceremony will take place at 19:00 BST on Wednesday at the iconic Place de la Concorde, marking the start of the Games. The first of 549 gold medals will be awarded the next day, with events running until the closing ceremony at the Stade de France on Sunday, 8 September.
With nearly two million tickets already sold and about 500,000 still available, the public’s response has been strong. Organizers are building on the momentum from the Paris Olympics, considering this as “half-time” before the Paralympics take center stage.
