Paris Olympics Athletes’ Village Opens Its Doors
The athletes’ village for the Paris Olympics and Paralympics officially opened on Thursday, welcoming its first inhabitants as the games draw near.
Located north of Paris, the village will accommodate nearly 14,500 people, including 9,000 athletes, at its peak. The first arrivals were team members from Australia and Brazil, eight days before the opening ceremony.
“We are ready,” said Augustin Tran Van Chau, the deputy head of the village, in an interview with French media.
Organizers have highlighted the village’s eco-friendly design, which maintains cool indoor temperatures without the need for air conditioning. Inside temperatures are expected to be at least 6 degrees Celsius (42 degrees Fahrenheit) lower than the outside summer temperatures. Despite this, some delegations have opted to bring their own air-conditioning units.
The village showcases a range of innovations aimed at making it a model of low-carbon construction, underscoring the commitment to sustainability at the Paris Olympics.
