One Dead as Migrants Attempt Channel Crossing to Britain

One person was found dead after a boat carrying migrants attempting to cross the Channel from Calais to Britain encountered difficulties overnight, French authorities reported on Sunday.

French emergency services rescued and provided aid to 34 other people from the vessel. The local French department responsible for the Calais region confirmed the incident.

Addressing illegal immigration has been a significant priority for both the British and French governments. Over 12,000 asylum seekers have arrived in Britain this year, many making dangerous crossings of the Channel from France in overcrowded dinghies prone to capsizing.

Earlier this month, another tragic incident occurred where four migrants died while trying to cross the Channel from France.
