Norway's Princess Märtha Louise weds American shaman

Princess Märtha Louise of Norway has wed American shaman Durek Verrett in a private ceremony in Geiranger, Western Norway, on Saturday. The wedding, which followed two days of celebrations, has stirred mixed reactions across Norway.

Unlike traditional royal weddings, which typically draw large crowds, only a small number of onlookers were present. The ceremony was shrouded in privacy, with views of the couple obscured by tents or white sheets, as they had sold exclusive rights to Hello! magazine. Additionally, a Netflix documentary crew was on site, leading to criticism due to the exclusion of local media outlets.

The wedding was attended by the princess’s parents, King Harald and Queen Sonja, alongside other Norwegian royal family members and royalty from Sweden and the Netherlands. Princess Märtha Louise’s three daughters from her previous marriage to the late writer Ari Behn also participated in the event. Approximately 350 guests attended the ceremony.
