Noni Madueke Apologizes After Insulting Wolverhampton
Noni Madueke issued an apology after mocking Wolverhampton on social media, a mistake that led to boos from the home crowd during Chelsea’s match against Wolves at Molineux. Despite the hostile reception, the 22-year-old winger delivered an impressive performance, scoring a 15-minute hat-trick that contributed to Chelsea’s 6-2 victory, marking Enzo Maresca’s first Premier League win as Chelsea’s manager.
Madueke, who has nearly a million followers on Instagram, had posted a comment on Saturday that offended many Wolverhampton residents. Although he quickly deleted the post, the damage had already been done, leading to jeers from Wolves fans throughout the match.
After the game, Madueke used his post-match interview to express his regret, saying, “I just want to apologize to everyone that I might have offended. It was a human mistake, an accident. I’m sure Wolverhampton is a nice town, and I’m sorry.”
He added that the experience was a learning opportunity and that he hoped to avoid such errors in the future. Despite the boos, Madueke stated that he anticipated the reaction and understood it as part of the game, emphasizing the importance of performing under pressure.
