NBTE Transitions to Digital Accreditation, Ends Physical Quality Assurance in August
The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has announced a significant shift to digital platforms for all quality assurance processes, starting August 2024. This transition aligns with the Federal Government’s push for digitalization and the needs of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
From August, physical accreditation and quality assurance activities for institutions under the NBTE will be discontinued. This change is a part of the board’s broader digitalization policy, which has seen substantial engagement from institutions and stakeholders, now totaling 489.
The NBTE, which oversees educational programs in technical institutions across Nigeria, emphasized the success of its digitalization efforts. In a statement released on Sunday by the Head of Media Unit, Fatima Abubakar, it was noted that digital assessments and documentation processes for 17 institutions across Nigeria’s six geo-political zones have been completed and approved.
The board highlighted the introduction of digital monitoring to ensure strict adherence to established standards. This move is aimed at delivering more efficient, effective, and transparent quality assurance processes, enhancing cost-effectiveness and integrity.
Led by Executive Secretary Prof. Idris Bugaje, the NBTE’s digitalization drive is expected to significantly improve the quality of Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions in Nigeria, aligning them with global best practices.
A recent meeting of the NBTE’s Executive Committee on July 18, 2024, acknowledged the progress made in this digital transition. The statement titled “NBTE’s digitalisation and technology-enabled quality assurance activities: a good leap forward” highlighted the board’s achievements, including an increase in institutions engaging with the digital system and the completion of digital assessments for numerous institutions.
