More Heavy Rain Predicted for England and Wales Amid Flood Warnings
The Met Office has issued new yellow weather warnings for Thursday and Friday, with heavy rain forecasted across large parts of England and Wales. These warnings come after several days of thunderstorms and downpours that have caused widespread flooding in parts of central and southern England.
The warnings affect most of England, except the north-west and parts of the West Midlands, and extend to much of Wales. Northern Ireland also faces a yellow warning for rain starting Wednesday evening through Thursday morning.
So far, the Environment Agency has issued 27 flood warnings and 60 less severe flood alerts in England. The persistent rain has already caused significant disruptions, with homes and businesses flooded, roads submerged, and rail services cancelled. A sinkhole that formed at AFC Wimbledon’s stadium in London has even led to the closure of the football pitch.
Flooding is likely to affect southern England, southern Wales, and parts of the Midlands from Thursday into Friday, with northern and north-east England also bracing for heavy rain. As conditions clear on Friday, temperatures are expected to drop below the seasonal average.
Earlier in the week, emergency services in Northampton rescued 43 people from a holiday park inundated by floodwaters after a nearby river burst its banks. Areas like Buckinghamshire, Northamptonshire, and Warwickshire were among the worst hit, experiencing more than a month’s worth of rain in just a few hours.
