Meta Bans Russian State Media Networks for Influence Operations
Meta, the owner of Facebook, has announced a global ban on several Russian state media networks, including Rossiya Segodnya and RT, citing their use of deceptive tactics to conduct influence operations and evade detection on its platforms.
“After careful consideration, we expanded our ongoing enforcement against Russian state media outlets. Rossiya Segodnya, RT, and other related entities are now banned from our apps globally for foreign interference activity,” Meta stated.
In response, RT newsreader Eunan O’Neill declared that both the broadcaster and Russia “deny the accusations that have been coming en masse against this channel and others in the past number of days.” The bans are set to take effect in the next few days.
