Mbappé’s La Liga Debut Ends in Draw at Mallorca
Kylian Mbappé’s much-anticipated La Liga debut for defending champions Real Madrid ended in a 1-1 draw against Mallorca on the opening day of the season.
The France captain, who recently made a high-profile move from Paris Saint-Germain, had marked his arrival at the club with a goal in Wednesday’s 2-0 UEFA Super Cup win over Atalanta. However, he was unable to find the back of the net in his first domestic league appearance for Madrid.
Real Madrid took the lead with a stunning goal from Rodrygo, who curled the ball into the net after a clever backheel assist from Vinicius Jr. Despite the early advantage, Madrid struggled to maintain control of the game.
Mallorca’s Vedat Muriqi equalized with a powerful header from Dani Rodríguez’s cross, leveling the score and giving the visitors hope of securing a point at the Santiago Bernabéu.
The match took a dramatic turn in injury time when Madrid defender Ferland Mendy was shown a red card for a reckless challenge on Muriqi, leaving the home side with ten men.
Mbappé had several opportunities to make an impact, including a shot that narrowly missed the target and another effort that forced Mallorca’s goalkeeper, Dominik Greif, into a crucial save.
This match marked a new chapter in Mbappé’s career as he played his first league game outside of France, having previously starred for Monaco and PSG. Despite the draw, Madrid fans will be eager to see how the six-time Ligue 1 Golden Boot winner adapts to life in La Liga as the season progresses.
