Mason Greenwood Set for Marseille Move After Manchester United Agreement
Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood is poised to join Marseille, with a medical scheduled before completing the permanent transfer.
Sources confirm that Greenwood has agreed to personal terms with Marseille. The transfer fee, including add-ons, exceeds 30 million euros (£25.2 million), and the contract is expected to extend until 2029. Additionally, United have secured a significant sell-on clause as part of the deal.
Marseille faced criticism from the city’s mayor when their intentions to sign Greenwood first emerged. However, the club remains committed, and Greenwood is set to join Roberto de Zerbi’s squad for the upcoming season.
Greenwood, 22, has not played for Manchester United since January 2022. Serious charges against him, including attempted rape and assault, were dropped in February 2023. Despite this, United confirmed last week that their stance remained unchanged, and they intended to sell the player.
The Old Trafford club recently added Netherlands forward Joshua Zirkzee to their squad. The fee for the homegrown player helps alleviate the club’s financial constraints as they strive to comply with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations.
Greenwood’s move to Marseille comes as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang exits the Ligue 1 side. The 35-year-old former Arsenal and Chelsea striker announced his departure on social media, stating, “Merci Marseille. It’s time for me to start a new chapter.” Aubameyang is set to join Saudi Pro League club Al-Qadisiyah.
This move marks a significant transition for both Greenwood and Marseille as they prepare for the new season.
