Manchester United Sack Erik Ten Hag After Struggles in Second Season
Manchester United have parted ways with manager Erik ten Hag after a challenging second season in which the club suffered its fourth Premier League defeat of the campaign. Despite leading United to two trophies in his two full seasons, including last season’s memorable FA Cup victory against Manchester City, Ten Hag’s struggles this term proved too significant to overcome.
The Dutch manager, who was appointed in 2022, had a win ratio of 54.7% during his tenure, overseeing 70 victories out of 128 matches in all competitions. His time at Old Trafford was initially successful, ending the club’s six-year trophy drought by winning the Carabao Cup in his debut season, along with securing a third-place Premier League finish.
However, his second season was far more turbulent. United crashed out of the Champions League group stage and finished eighth in the Premier League. The pressure mounted despite a brief high point—beating rivals Manchester City at Wembley in last season’s FA Cup final.
In response to the news, United captain Bruno Fernandes shared his thoughts on Instagram, expressing gratitude to Ten Hag. “Thanks for everything boss! I appreciate the trust and the moments we share together, I wish you all the best in the future,” he wrote. “Even knowing the last period isn’t been great from all of us I hope you fans can keep with you the good things the manager has done for our club!”
