Manchester City Secures Brazil's Savinho Until 2029

Manchester City has officially signed Brazilian winger Savinho from French club Troyes, committing him to the team until 2029 in a deal worth 40 million euros (£30.8m). The 20-year-old impressed last season while on loan at Girona, where he played a crucial role in their third-place finish in La Liga.

Savinho, who also goes by Savio, expressed his excitement about joining what he considers the “best team in the world.” He is eager to work under Manchester City’s renowned manager Pep Guardiola, whom he described as “one of the greatest coaches ever.” Reflecting on his decision, Savinho said, “I just got here this morning and I turned to my agent and stepfather and said, ‘there was no way I was going to turn down Manchester City.’”

Known for his dynamic and joyful style of play, Savinho described his approach to football: “I’m a Brazilian who likes to play on the front foot, to be happy, to play joyful football. I like playing one against one, making assists, scoring goals too, and helping the team. My main characteristic, what I like the most, is being happy and getting fans up off their seats.”

Savinho began his professional career at Atletico Mineiro in Brazil before moving to Troyes in the summer of 2022. Although he did not make a competitive appearance for Troyes, he gained valuable experience on loan at PSV Eindhoven for the 2022-23 season. However, it was his loan spell at Girona that marked his breakout season, where he scored 11 goals and provided 10 assists across all competitions, earning him his first senior call-up for Brazil in March.

Manchester City’s director of football, Txiki Begiristain, praised Savinho’s potential: “He has a big role to play for Manchester City this season and beyond. We are totally confident in his ability. He is still young and has the potential to become even better, and everyone knows that Pep is the best at helping players develop even further. But he has already shown his huge quality and technical ability and is an exciting addition to our attacking area.”

Savinho’s addition to the squad is seen as a strategic move to enhance Manchester City’s attacking options as they continue to build a team capable of competing at the highest level.
