Man Utd Agree £42m Deal to Sign Ugarte from PSG, McTominay Set for Napoli Switch
Manchester United have reached an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain to sign Uruguay midfielder Manuel Ugarte for a fee of 50 million euros (£42.29 million), with an additional 10 million euros (£8.46 million) in potential add-ons. The 23-year-old is expected to undergo a medical in Manchester on Tuesday.
The transfer coincides with Scott McTominay’s impending move to Napoli for 30 million euros (£25.37 million). United have been linked with Ugarte throughout the summer, and his arrival marks a significant addition to Erik ten Hag’s squad. Ugarte, who joined PSG from Sporting Lisbon for a reported 60 million euros last year, made 37 appearances last season, helping PSG secure their 12th Ligue 1 title.
The deal also includes a 10% sell-on clause for PSG, with both clubs expressing satisfaction with the agreement. The completion of Ugarte’s transfer to United is contingent on McTominay finalizing his move to Napoli, which is expected to proceed smoothly.
McTominay, a product of United’s academy, is set to travel to Italy for a medical. Despite being a regular in the squad last season, making 32 Premier League appearances and scoring seven goals, McTominay’s future at Old Trafford has been uncertain due to the club’s need to comply with Premier League Profit and Sustainability regulations.
Ugarte’s transfer to United would be the club’s fifth signing of the summer, bringing their total spending to over £190 million. Since Ten Hag’s appointment in 2022, United have spent nearly £600 million on new players, as the club continues to rebuild under his leadership.
