Liverpool's Darwin Nunez Receives Five-Game Ban for Altercation with Fans

Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez has been handed a five-game international ban following an altercation with spectators after Uruguay’s Copa America semi-final loss to Colombia in July. The 25-year-old was seen physically confronting fans in the stands post-match, leading to the ban and a £15,145 ($20,000) fine imposed by South American football’s governing body, Conmebol.

The incident also saw other Uruguayan players receive sanctions. Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur, 27, was given a four-game ban, while Napoli defender Mathias Olivera, 26, Barcelona’s Ronald Araujo, 25, and Atletico Madrid’s Jose Maria Gimenez, 29, were each handed three-game bans.

Conmebol announced that a total of five players were banned and 11 were fined for their involvement in the altercation.
