Lagos Residents Panic Amid Police Raids on Dark Spots
Residents of Agege in Lagos State have expressed concern over the ongoing police raids targeting criminal hideouts, fearing that innocent individuals may be unjustly arrested and punished.
The state’s Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, visited the rail line in Agege on a fact-finding mission on Saturday, following complaints about petty robbers in the area. The command’s Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, shared in a statement on X.com that the CP directed a reorganization of security in the area.
During the raid, at least 10 individuals, including passers-by and those suspected of questionable activities, were arrested. While residents appreciate the police’s efforts to curb the increasing number of petty robbers, they are concerned about the police’s approach of stopping and arresting people based on suspicion alone.
“The police should reconsider their approach so that innocent persons will not be made to suffer,” one resident stated.
The CP assured that the operation is tactical and supervised by a senior police officer of the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police. “We will ensure that innocent persons are not arrested, and if there are instances of such, they will be promptly released,” he said.
