Lagos Refers Domestic Violence Allegation Against Influencer SirJarus to Police
The Lagos Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has referred an abuse allegation involving popular online influencer Suraj Oyewale, known as SirJarus, to the police for investigation.
The agency noted that SirJarus addressed the issue through a series of now-deleted tweets, where he claimed that his wife, Mrs. Oyewale Ayoola, engaged in fetish practices and provocative behavior, which he said led to a physical altercation. He further indicated that their 14-year marriage might be nearing its end, a situation seemingly related to his recent decision to take a second wife.
The DSVA responded on its X account on Friday, stating, “Our attention has been drawn to a tweet made by @SirJarus. As the statutory agency in Lagos State dedicated to preventing and responding to domestic and sexual violence, we take this very seriously. Domestic violence in any form is unacceptable, and the Lagos State Government maintains a zero-tolerance stance against it.”
A suit dated June 27, 2024, posted by Oyewale himself, reveals his intent to dissolve the marriage. Filed by his lawyer, Muhammad Adam of Muhammad Adam and Associates, the suit specifies that abandoning Islam and consulting soothsayers and herbalists were deal breakers established before their marriage in 2011. Oyewale is also seeking full custody of their three children.
The suit stated, “We shall continue to communicate with you on the progress of the matrimonial proceedings.”
