Tragedy strikes as three perish in Lagos building collapse
Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has confirmed the unfortunate demise of three site workers following the collapse of a building in Arowojobe Estate, Maryland.
Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, conveyed the somber news, detailing that the incident occurred at No 13, Wilson Mba Street. The collapse involved a set of three terraces that were under construction.
Upon receiving a distress call at 3:49 am, LASEMA promptly mobilized its response team to the scene by 3:58 am. Search and rescue operations ensued swiftly, resulting in the recovery of three adult males who tragically lost their lives. Additionally, two male adults were successfully rescued, and efforts are ongoing to free one more trapped under the rubble.
The collaborative efforts of LASEMA, Lagos State Fire Service, and other emergency responders have been pivotal in these operations. The rescued individuals are currently receiving medical attention on-site, and measures are in place to handle the remains of those who lost their lives.
As the investigation and rescue operations continue, LASEMA remains dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of all involved, with the deployment of necessary resources like excavators to expedite efforts at the scene.
