Kylian Mbappe Opens La Liga Account with a Brace as Real Madrid Defeats Real Betis

Kylian Mbappe has finally opened his La Liga goal account, scoring twice as Real Madrid secured a 2-0 victory over Real Betis. The French forward, who joined Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain over the summer, had gone three La Liga matches without finding the back of the net but broke his drought in style.

Mbappe’s first goal came after he latched onto a clever backheel from Federico Valverde, calmly slotting the ball past Betis goalkeeper Rui Silva. Later, he doubled his tally by converting a penalty, sending Silva the wrong way after the keeper had fouled Vinicius Jr. in the box.

Despite his recent goal drought, Mbappe had been actively contributing to Madrid’s attack, with his first goal coming from his 25th shot in La Liga. His penalty goal marked his 26th shot—more attempts than any other player in Europe’s top five leagues this season.

Real Betis had opportunities to take the lead earlier in the match. Abde Ezzalzouli headed wide from close range, and Barcelona loanee Vitor Roque forced a save with his first touch after coming off the bench.

Real Madrid, however, was dominant throughout, with several close attempts before Mbappe’s breakthrough. Eder Militao and Valverde tested Silva, while Vinicius Jr. hit the post with a deflected shot.

Madrid remains unbeaten after four league games, though they trail Barcelona by four points. Real Betis, meanwhile, have only managed to secure one point from their first three matches.
