Joao Cancelo Departs Manchester City for Al-Hilal in Saudi Pro League
Joao Cancelo, the versatile Portuguese defender, has left Manchester City to join Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal in a deal worth £21.2 million. Cancelo, who initially joined City from Juventus in 2019 for £60 million, played a crucial role under Pep Guardiola, making 154 appearances and scoring nine goals for the club.
Despite his contributions, a reported disagreement with Guardiola led to Cancelo’s loan moves to Bayern Munich in January 2023 and then to Barcelona for the remainder of the season. While there was speculation that Cancelo might return to the fold at City, he was not featured in the club’s opening two Premier League matches this season.
