Jack Draper Triumphs in Vienna to Claim Biggest Career Title Yet
British tennis star Jack Draper claimed the most significant victory of his career, winning the Erste Bank Open in Vienna and further solidifying his breakout season. The 22-year-old displayed impressive skill and resilience to defeat Russia’s Karen Khachanov 6-4, 7-5 in the final of the ATP 500 event.
“To win this title feels incredible. I’m so proud of myself and my team – the hard work is for moments like this,” Draper said, expressing his delight after the win.
However, the path to victory wasn’t easy. After racing to a 4-0 lead in the second set, Draper saw Khachanov mount a comeback, taking a 5-4 lead. Undeterred, Draper broke back to go ahead 6-5, earning the chance to serve for the match. In a tense final game, the Briton faced two break points but fought them off, eventually sealing the win when Khachanov’s lob went wide on championship point.
This is Draper’s second tour-level title, following his ATP 250 win in Stuttgart earlier this year. His remarkable season has seen him soar up the rankings, and he is set to reach a career-high position of 15th in the world on Monday. Just a year ago, Draper was ranked just inside the top 100 as he battled back from a shoulder injury.
