Ingebrigtsen and Duplantis Smash World Records at Silesia Diamond League

Jakob Ingebrigtsen and Armand Duplantis made history at the Diamond League meeting in Silesia with remarkable world record-breaking performances.

Norway’s Ingebrigtsen shattered the 28-year-old 3,000m world record, clocking in at an astonishing seven minutes and 17.55 seconds. This time eclipsed the previous record of 7:20.67, set by Kenya’s Daniel Komen in 1996. Ingebrigtsen’s achievement ended the longest-standing men’s athletics world record in an individual track event.

In the pole vault, Sweden’s Armand Duplantis continued his dominance by clearing 6.26 meters, breaking his own world record by one centimeter. Duplantis had previously set this record while winning Olympic gold in Paris earlier this month. His second-attempt clearance marked the third time this season that the 24-year-old has set a new world record and the 10th overall in his career.

Duplantis was joined by American Sam Kendricks and Greece’s Emmanouil Karalis, both of whom cleared 6 meters, earning Olympic silver and bronze, respectively.

Reflecting on his achievement, Duplantis said, “This year I focused on the Olympics, the record just came naturally because I was in good shape. So I am not surprised with the record today, but I am thankful.”
