Haaland Scores on Milestone Appearance as Man City Secure Win Over Chelsea

Erling Haaland marked his 100th appearance for Manchester City with a crucial goal as the Premier League champions began their title defence with a 2-0 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Haaland, who has been prolific since joining City from Borussia Dortmund in 2022, opened the scoring in the 18th minute with a delicate finish over Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez. This was his 91st goal for the club, underscoring his remarkable scoring record.

City secured the win late in the game when former Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic curled in a shot from just outside the penalty area, sealing the three points for the visitors.

The match itself was a relatively subdued affair, with few clear-cut chances. Kevin de Bruyne came close to doubling City’s lead with a curling effort shortly after Haaland’s goal, while Sanchez denied Jeremy Doku with a fine save after a deflected shot.

Chelsea had a brief moment of hope when Nicolas Jackson found the back of the net, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside after City goalkeeper Ederson spilled Cole Palmer’s shot. Jackson later saw a first-time volley saved by Ederson as the home side pushed for an equaliser.
