GB's Charlotte Purdue Withdraws from Olympic Marathon Due to Injury

Great Britain’s Charlotte Purdue has been forced to withdraw from the women’s Olympic marathon at Paris 2024 due to an ankle injury. The 33-year-old was set to compete on 11 August but has now been replaced by Clara Evans.

Purdue, who became the second-fastest British woman in marathon history after running two hours 22 minutes and 17 seconds at the 2023 Berlin Marathon, expressed disappointment at not being able to participate. Her impressive record places her just behind Paula Radcliffe in the rankings.

Evans, aged 30, will make her Olympic debut in Paris following her last-minute inclusion. She will compete alongside Calli Hauger-Thackery and Rose Harvey in the women’s marathon, which is scheduled as the final athletics event of the Games.
