Food Poisoning Outbreak Hits TikTok HQ Staff in Singapore
A food poisoning outbreak has affected dozens of employees at ByteDance’s Singapore office, the parent company of TikTok, leading to hospitalization. Health and food safety officials in Singapore are actively investigating the incident, which resulted in 60 people exhibiting symptoms of gastroenteritis on Tuesday, with 57 requiring hospital treatment.
In response to the outbreak, ByteDance is conducting its investigation to determine the cause of the illness. According to local media reports, 17 ambulances were dispatched to the building in Singapore’s business district to assist those affected.
A ByteDance spokesperson emphasized the company’s commitment to employee health and safety, stating “We take the health and safety of our employees very seriously and have taken immediate steps to support all affected employees, including working with emergency services to provide care.” The spokesperson added, “We are investigating the matter and are working with the relevant authorities on this.”
The Singapore Food Agency (SFA), in conjunction with the Ministry of Health, released a joint statement emphasizing the importance of food safety practices: “Food operators must play their part by adhering to good food safety practices. SFA will not hesitate to take enforcement action against errant food operators.”
