Exploding Walkie-Talkies Cause Chaos in Lebanon, Leaving 14 Dead and Hundreds Injured
A wave of devastating explosions targeting walkie-talkies has rocked Lebanon, killing 14 people and injuring at least 450 others. The incidents occurred just as crowds were gathering in Dahiya, the Hezbollah stronghold in southern Beirut, to mourn victims of a similar pager-bomb attack that took place on Tuesday.
Amid the chaos, a video captured the terrifying scene of an explosion, showing a man lying on the ground as panic and screams ensued. The blast happened moments before funerals were set to begin for an 11-year-old boy and three Hezbollah members killed the previous day.
The situation spiraled into further bedlam as the sound of the explosion echoed through the streets, abruptly halting the mourners’ chants. Shock and disbelief spread quickly among the crowd.
Following the explosion, reports surfaced that this was part of a second wave of attacks, specifically targeting walkie-talkies. In response, paranoia gripped the streets, with Hezbollah supporters urging people to avoid using any electronic devices, including phones and cameras.
Lebanese officials confirmed that the explosions caused fires in dozens of homes, shops, and vehicles throughout the capital and southern regions of the country. The attacks are already being viewed as a major blow to Hezbollah, suggesting that their communication network may have been compromised, with some speculation pointing towards potential Israeli infiltration.
