Ex-Partner of Ugandan Athlete Dies from Burns After Fatal Attack
Dickson Ndiema, the former boyfriend of Ugandan Olympic athlete Rebecca Cheptegei, has succumbed to injuries sustained after he set her on fire in a brutal attack. Ndiema ambushed Cheptegei over a week ago as she returned home from church in north-west Kenya, dousing her with petrol and igniting the flames that led to her death.
The tragic incident occurred amid a dispute between the two over a small piece of land where Cheptegei, a marathon runner, lived and trained. Ndiema was admitted to the intensive care unit with burns covering more than 30% of his body and passed away on Monday night.
This shocking event has left the athletic community and locals reeling, marking a devastating end to a conflict that escalated into a horrific act of violence.
