Djokovic Begins US Open Campaign with Victory, Eyes Record 25th Major Title

Novak Djokovic has commenced his quest for a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam singles title with a dominant victory over Radu Albot in the first round of the US Open. Djokovic, currently tied with Margaret Court at 24 major titles, is aiming to make history by securing the most Grand Slam singles titles of all time.

The 37-year-old Serbian star cruised to a 6-2, 6-2, 6-4 win in his first match since winning Olympic gold in Paris just 23 days ago. Djokovic, who has won nearly every title in tennis, hailed his Olympic triumph as his “biggest sporting achievement” but remains focused on adding another Grand Slam to his illustrious career.

Despite his incredible record, Djokovic is still in search of his first Grand Slam title this year, having won at least one major every year since 2017. Speaking ahead of the match, Djokovic lightheartedly mentioned his desire to “avenge” his two younger brothers, Djordje and Marko, who had both previously lost to Moldova’s Albot.

“There was so much at stake – I felt like there was revenge for my younger brothers,” Djokovic joked in his post-match interview with ESPN.
