Dazzling Draper Reaches US Open Quarter-Finals in Straight Sets
Jack Draper delivered a stunning performance to secure his place in the US Open quarter-finals with a dominant straight-set win over Tomas Machac. The 22-year-old Briton triumphed 6-3, 6-1, 6-2, marking his first appearance in the last eight of a Grand Slam.
Draper’s victory makes him the first British player to reach the men’s singles quarter-finals at Flushing Meadows since Andy Murray in 2016. Reflecting on the match, Draper commented, “Today I played a decent level. He was maybe a little bit off his best, but I had to stay strong in the points. I lost here last year in the same round, so it’s nice to come back and do better.”
Despite Machac’s strong start, Draper’s relentless focus and power proved too much, as he dispatched his opponent in just one hour and 44 minutes. This win continues Draper’s impressive run, having not dropped a set in the tournament so far.
In what has been a breakthrough year, including his maiden ATP title in Stuttgart and a victory over Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz at Queen’s, Draper’s confidence is soaring. With several top players, including Novak Djokovic and Alcaraz, already out of the competition, Draper has every reason to believe he could go all the way.
If Draper continues his winning streak, he could face world number one Jannik Sinner in the semi-finals, adding even more excitement to his already remarkable campaign.
