Confidence Staveley: Nigeria’s Trailblazing Female API Cybersecurity Author

Celebrating significant achievements in male-dominated fields, Confidence Staveley, a software engineer and cybersecurity specialist, is being honoured nationwide for her pioneering work in API cybersecurity. She is recognised as Nigeria’s first female author of a book on Application Programming Interface (API) security, aimed at protecting sensitive biodata from breaches.

Her book, API Security for White Hat Hackers, provides essential tools for data managers, web developers, and software developers to build secure data centers and enhance cybersecurity measures. Staveley, founder of CyberSafe Foundation and MerkieFence, emphasizes designing security by default to protect against potential threats.

Christopher Romeo, CEO of Devici and General Partner at Kerr Ventures, praised Staveley’s ability to translate complex cybersecurity concepts into understandable insights, highlighting the critical impact of APIs on data security and privacy.

Romeo commended the book’s practical exercises on testing APIs, identifying vulnerabilities, and implementing effective solutions. Staveley stresses the importance of basic security measures, such as strong usernames, passwords, and multiple layers of protection. She also addresses the threat of deceptive tactics, like harmful email links, which are common entry points for cyberattacks.

Staveley’s decade-long experience and adherence to global best practices drive her mission to empower businesses and organizations in safeguarding data. Her book includes an intentionally vulnerable API, enabling readers to learn defensive strategies by understanding how attackers exploit vulnerabilities.
