Bunq Expands Global Team Amid Fintech Job Cuts, Targeting Digital Nomads
Dutch neobank Bunq is defying the trend of job cuts in the fintech industry by launching a significant hiring spree. The company plans to grow its workforce by 70% this year, aiming to end 2024 with 735 employees, up from 427 at the start of the year. This comes as other fintech startups are reducing their staff.
Bunq’s expansion is driven by its ambitions to break into new markets, including the U.K. and U.S., where it plans to compete with established digital banks like Monzo, Revolut, and Chime. To support this global growth, Bunq is actively recruiting talent across multiple areas, including sales, product marketing, PR, and user support.
One of Bunq’s key hiring initiatives is a “tailored digital nomad” program, designed to attract remote workers who can operate from anywhere in the world. Despite this focus on flexibility, the company will maintain its physical office spaces in cities such as Amsterdam, Sofia, Istanbul, and New York City.
Bunq is also in the process of applying for banking licenses in both the U.S. and U.K., as it seeks to expand its services and establish a stronger foothold in these key markets.
