Atletico’s Robin le Normand Suffers Traumatic Brain Injury After Madrid Derby Collision
Atletico Madrid defender Robin le Normand has sustained a traumatic brain injury following a head-to-head collision with Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni during stoppage time in Sunday’s 1-1 Madrid derby at the Metropolitano.
The 27-year-old Spain international received on-field treatment after the clash and was subsequently taken for further medical evaluation. Atletico Madrid confirmed that Le Normand underwent a series of tests, which revealed a subdural haematoma—bleeding caused by a burst blood vessel near the brain.
The club stated that Le Normand will adhere to the protocols for this type of injury before returning to play. His recovery will be closely monitored by specialists.
Le Normand, who was part of Spain’s victorious Euro 2024 squad and started in the final against England, joined Atletico Madrid from Real Sociedad over the summer.
