Atletico Madrid Secure Julian Alvarez for Record £81.5m Transfer from Manchester City
Atletico Madrid has finalized the signing of Julian Alvarez from Manchester City for a record-breaking fee of £81.5 million. The 24-year-old Argentina striker has agreed to a six-year contract with Diego Simeone’s team, marking one of the most significant transfers of the summer.
The deal includes an initial payment of £64.4 million (€75 million), with an additional £17.1 million (€20 million) potentially being added through performance-related bonuses. This transfer fee surpasses Manchester City’s previous record sale of £50 million, which they received from Chelsea for Raheem Sterling in 2022.
Alvarez, who joined City from Argentine club River Plate for £14.1 million in January 2022, made a considerable impact during his time in Manchester. He contributed to City’s success in winning six major trophies, including the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League.
In a heartfelt farewell, Alvarez expressed his gratitude and emotional attachment to Manchester City. “Today I say goodbye to this amazing club, with a lot of emotion,” he said. “These have been two very special years. During this time, I have grown and learned a lot—both as a player and as a person.”
