Ariana Grande pulls out of London musical to take break from public scrutiny

US singer Ariana Grande has withdrawn from an upcoming London musical and will step back from public appearances after completing her Eternal Sunshine tour, her representatives have said.

A representative told People magazine that the 33-year-old “will be taking a step back from visibility” when the tour concludes next month, citing “endless, ongoing public scrutiny”.

The producers of a 2027 revival of Sunday in the Park with George at London’s Barbican Centre confirmed that Grande would no longer star in the production.

“Following this evening’s announcement from Ariana Grande’s team, we can confirm that she has decided to step back from Sunday in the Park with George,” Empire Street Productions said in a statement.

“We know this cannot have been an easy decision, and she makes it with our complete understanding and support. We wish her nothing but the best.”

Grande had been due to appear alongside her Wicked co-star Jonathan Bailey in the revival of Stephen Sondheim’s acclaimed 1984 musical.

The singer’s appearance and health have been the subject of public speculation in recent years, with renewed attention following the release of her latest album, Petal, two days ago and her appearances in promotional material for the record.

Her representative said Grande was looking forward to finishing her tour “on a high note, both healthily and happily”.

“She performs a very physical show, and there is a lot of athleticism involved. She performs healthily and successfully at a very high level night after night,” the representative added.
